  • Team Mongolia

I've shared with you all breifly about my team.  But, I realized that I haven't shared about the whole team Mongolia.

There are a total of 3 teams here in the city; 2 teaching teams and 1 leadership team which also includes the new people.

This picture is from our training back in early September.

  •   This year I am team teaching with two other women.  We are working with Mongolian High school English teachers.  We all meet one time a week for a workshop.  The rest of the week I visit my students in their classrooms and grade their homework.  Our workshops vary between oral, listening, and methodology.  We are working to help them improve in their own language ability as well as their teaching abilities.

Here are some pictures from one of our recent workshops.

  • Class of '09

I recently graduated from Lee University with a Master of Education degree.  Lee has been so amazing in working with me, over these last couple of years, while I've been in Mongolia.  I spent 2 summers at Lee (Tennessee) taking classes and 2 winter sessions in Thailand.  Each Thailand 2 professors would fly over and teach intensive classes for 2 weeks.  It's been an amazing experience!  I am so thankful to be done and have my masters.  I feel that the education has helped to be a much better teacher and 'servant' in Mongolia.

                                                           My parents came from Arizona!

  • Picnic - Mongolian style!

This last weekend some of us English teachers were 'received' by the senior class.  Basically that means that they took us on a nice picnic, by the river, and thanked us for the year.  It was fun!

Join me as I take you  on a picture walk through the day of typical Mongolian picnic.

9 a.m. -Kill the sheep and sort him out for lunch and dinner.

  • Nariz

Last week was the Kazakh 'New Year' celebration, Nariz.  It has a lot of similarities to Tsagaan Sar but they don't eat buuz (dumplings).  Here are some pictures from that weekend. I visited several students homes but I only got pictures of a couple.

We kicked off the holiday with a Naris concert

I REALLY enjoyed this weekend visiting good friends and students.  Even though it was similar to Tsagaan Sar, it had it's own Kazakh feel.  :)
